circa 1854, with octagonal 6 1/4in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, the borderline and scroll engraved top-strap signed 'B. COGSWELL 224 STRAND LONDON', engraved band at muzzle, scroll engraving at breech, plain cylinder with engraved rope-twist band to the front and borderline engraving to the rear, borderline and scroll engraved frame, 'Tranter's Patent' hinged detachable rammer mounted to the left hand side, spurless hammer with inverted 'Y' shaped safety spring, cocking trigger protruding through the bow and chequered walnut one-piece grip, traces of finish with surface frosting
